i'm so excited i want to cry

really!  i feel like i've been on the verge of tears all day.  ten months of anticipation and now here we are... only days away!  three more nights in the US of A.  each night, i'm sure, becoming more sleepless than the last!  we are so eager to step back into the Italy world.

i have two favorite places in california: Mammoth & Leucadia.  They are about 400 miles apart.  One sits as high as 11,000 feet and the other at sea level.  I got to be in both places today!!!  Tonight I am not here to show you photos of either.  Instead... the drive in between.  An array of boisterous mountains and shriveling desserts.  Pines and joshuas.  Ghost town after ghost town.  We drove with the windows down in the fresh rain.  Then an hour later we sweat our way through the smog.  At one point a stealth plane flew no less than 300 yards above us... at first sight, we thought it was a seagull.  But it was not.  There are no seagulls around these parts.

had dinner at The Chart House, an early birthday celebration for mommy :) delicious!  an amazin salad!  macadamia nut crusted halibut...  perfect halibut! mmmmm!  afterwards we bundled up and went on a little walk through the neighborhood and a little secret forest ;D
