resolution 2

While my first resolution is to think more globally, my second is to eat more locally :)
yeeeaaa... really starting to sound like a little hippie flower child aren't i?
i couldn't be more serious though... and i'm definitely thrilled!
the idea is not to be vegan or raw or vegetarian ... but to eat foods that are natural and free of synthetic additives or processing.
basically i just want to eat fresh, always.

fresh - 1. recently created and not faded or impaired -2. full of energy and vigor -3. bright or healthy in appearance -4. pleasantly clean & pure

living with type -1 diabetes has made me very conscious about what foods i put into my body (both good & bad).
at the end of the day, this heightened level of mindfulness makes it impossible for me to ignore the way that these foods make me feel.
i , without a doubt, know wazzz good for me and what's not... and it is my responsibility to treat my itty bitty self with some grace.

i've considered a lot of options and i like this one above all. instead of choosing a diet based on deprivations, it's about "bringing together pleasure & responsibility, and making them inseperable". i think it's going to be real easy & enriching. i definitely look forward to spending more time at my favez like Sellands Market, Cavalli Cafe & Old Soul Baking Company... places that uphold slow food standards and use locally and ethically sourced foods. i'm also excited to check out the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-Op downtown. not to mention, we have a friggin garden in our backyard, as well as an orchard. we have strawberry stands on every back road in town and live in close proximity to Apple Hill. travelling with this mindset is going to be incredible. i'll be spending some time journeying the california, oregon & washington coast this year and look forward to revisiting some farmers markets in point reyes, san clemente & seattle. hopefully i'll be seeing europe again this year too, where appreciating local-food traditions just goes without saying :)

resolution 1

in the new year i will become more aware about conflicts around the world. not too long ago i witnessed an israeli-palestinian peace demonstration and, while I did fall in love with the passion and beauty of the people, I did not know hardly anything about the issue and i was very sorry for that. i want to know.

like most winters, i'll be taking off on an extended coastal road trip. looking forward to seeing a lot of people and spending some time in the pacific ocean. first stop: encinitas. here's some 35mm from the last time around :)

out with the new, in with the old.

sorry, no new material anddd i'm bored as ever andddd feeling sentimental. bad combo. so you get more of this old junk.
it may seem like i've posted these pictures before, and, well let me just say, it's entirely possible. i've lost track.
Rome, it's like a lost love i can't seem to get over (who, me?). at least this time there's merit to it. it's not my fault they've got charming pink buildings and stuff...

okay, maybe the Tiber isn't that charming. but whatever, just go with it.

one day we went for a drive to the other side of the lake and Paigey got to learn how to drive a stick shift.
she wasn't too stoked on the autostrada so we took the back roads through Umbria instead.
i was just keepin' it real in the back seat ...taking pictures... praying for my life...just kidding, she done real good :)
